Speonk Lumber is pleased to announce that Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification has been granted to us by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) who is accredited by the FSC to verify companies to their international standards.

Who is the FSC? The Forest Stewardship Council, www.fsc.org, is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

What is Chain of Custody Certification? FSC Chain of Custody certification means that our company meets strict tracking requirements for ensuring that the products we sell as FSC-certified come from a well-managed forest.

Are all Speonk Lumber products now FSC-certified? No. Our certification simply means that we are now able to provide FSC-certified products.

What FSC certified products will you keep in stock? None, initially. All certified products will be brought in by special order. Please call us for price and availability.

Why would I want FSC certified products? Currently, the primary demand for FSC certified product is for projects that are trying to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. For more information on the LEED program, visit the US Green Building Council at www.usgbc.org.

Can I use FSC certified material on a non-LEED project? Of course. Anyone who wants to assure that the lumber they use comes from responsibly managed forests around the world is encouraged to use certified lumber products. It’s a great way to do your part for the environment in a local way that has global impact.

How will I know that the material I receive is actually certified? Each item of certified material on your invoice will show our FSC certificate number.
